Re: Ray Peat - Sucrose, thyroid, metabolism and body temp
Speaking from personal experience. Foods high in MSG... which is basically what most eat, sugar, lots of fruit, etc is what kept me going for years. Eventually catches up and makes everything so much worse in the end. Later, learned to substitute fat for the above foods and eat fat often whenever hungry to keep me alive.
Can be insulin resistant and be underweight.
In the end, found it was due to lyme, mycoplasma and many others is what caused this all. At least for me. If I'm right, you can try to consume lots of fiber such as from oatmeal and see if you put on weight and do better. This is just a bandaid though and not for long-term. If you eat a lot of fiber or carbs you'll also want fermented food such as SCD yogurt for other reasons.
No expert here so can only speak from personal experience. Some quotes:
Profound dysfunction of the hypothalamus, pituitary, adrenal, thyroid glands and gonads is very common n mycoplasmal, fungal, and anerobic bacterial infections. The avid consumption of cholesterol by activated mycoplasma could be a contributing factor to these endocrine disorders because cholesterol is needed to create several important hormones (estrogen, testosterone, progesterone, hydrocortisone, aldosterone).
These mycoplasmas, when activated by stress, are avid consumers of sterols including cholesterol. A series of chemical reactions ensues culminating in the creation of cyanate which causes failure of normal energy production by the mitochondria of the cells.

We know that one of the major areas of the body that becomes resistant to many feedback loops is the hypothalamus.
