Please advise: Type 1 diabetic, hypothyroid issues, vitamins

Dear friends,
I've been cleaning up my diet and dietary habits for the past three months now. I've been sticking to: very low fat meats, organic eggs, soy milk and yogurt, cracked-grain breads at low amounts, leafy dark greens and colorful veg, and plenty of fruit. I've chosen to blend instead of juice, especially when doing fruits, because it keeps the fruit fiber in the drink and satisfies much more. Also.. the fact that the helper-nutrients are often in the fibers/flesh, and I'm lazy! My juicer is a pain-in-the-arse mess when full to the brim with carrot mess and the like.

I started a revolution in January after my ninth or tenth major insomnia period over the past fifteen years with type 1 diabetes. I developed hypothyroidisim about ten years ago when I started going to college (and ate candy like the dickens), and my dose on levothyroxin (eltroxin) has slowly increased over the years due to weight gain.

I am fortunate enough to live in an area with a water supply where they are very conscientious of the hazards of flouride and chlorine. We have a deep-ground supply that goes through several layers of sand. It tastes a great deal different from US water, and it leaves hard-water stains on glass if it's allowed to dry there. Basically it's decently high in calcium. It tastes a bit metallic to me these days, but I can explain more thoroughly in a moment.

I haven't fasted yet. I haven't fasted ever, except one whole day at a time, because I'm on an insulin pump and always been warned to watch out for low blood sugars.

My current supplementation is as follows, alongside prescription medication:
5,000 iu / 125 mcg vitamin D3 (after fully investigating the vitDcouncil webpage)
300 mg magnesium phidolate/oxoid
1 b-complex
1 multivitamin -without- calcium (no magnesium in it)
1,000 mg vitamin C
3 x capsules fish oil with vitamin E.

After a bout with hypercalcemia when trying a herbally-fortified multivitamin, I had some days where I was very mood-swingy. I posted in a forum asking for help with evaluating things, and a very helpful member, Thall, pointed out I might need some iodine. A friend had given me some died kelp salad, so I used that, and noticed an immediate, odd sensation of my shoulder/neck-bridge muscles relaxing (10-20 minutes after the kelp/seaweed), and a bit more of a feeling of fluidity in muscles and joints. Almost a drunken feeling, if I have to say it that way, but it did help me relax. I'm using it a little here and there these days.

The one thing that -has- been troubling are cold-like symptoms - for about two weeks now. I had heavy mood swings in combination with my blood sugars going up or down (emotions are heavy linked to blood acidity level and glucose swings), and my doctor has instructed me to go on antidepressants. I'm very wary of them for the fact that I do not wish to be dependant on them, but they do help level out the anxiousness and over-analyzing of my supplemental regimes and all.

Anyways, for the past month I have had varying levels of:
10-20 mg citralopam
50-100 mcg of levythyroxin.

Two weeks ago I developed a cold (post nasal drip) after visiting and working with another person who had a cold. However, I have started to notice that when I take levythyroxin, especially right after taking it, my throat feels like it swells up a bit, and I get the feeling of being unable to breathe quite right/get my lungs full of air. Also, my heartrate goes up. I was on a walk when this happened last night (I lowered the dose to 50mcg of levythyroxin last night because of suspecting it), and I ended up with a seriously low blood Sugar after. I'm going to repeat the same dosage tonight to watch for changes, but I'm simply not 100% sure yet what is effecting what.

I'm sticking to the magnesium and kelp because both are indicated in hypothyroidisim (http://www.krispin.com/magnes.html magnesium http://www.anyvitamins.com/iodine-info.htm
and iodine). I think the levothyroxine is resulting in the increased heartrate and facial swelling.. I had a good two weeks or so without it in the beginning of march, and the swelling at the join of my neck and underchin went down a good bit. Currently it is a bit back, but slight goiter can show up both with over and underactive thyroid.

My end goal is to be treating myself much more naturally than un-naturally. The vitamin D and magnesium though.. it's something I feel very strongly about sticking to because of my latitude and condition. Also.. the fact that I have a -VERY- hard time finding magnesium salts (magnesium sulfate, etc) here makes alternative therapy difficult.

Chlorella and spirulina is accessible, if rather expensive.. but interestingly enough, spirulina is easily available in large amounts as fish food in flake form. I've seen it available in a 1.8 (~4-pound) container for about 60-80 dollars, but I don't know if sprulina manufactured for animals is of the same quality as that offered in pill-form for human use. I'm interested because of the amino-acid groups that are in them, and the fact that the nutrients are much more bioavailable in them than in manufactured multvitamins.

What I can say.. is that I have a hard time staying fully-hydrated. Every time my blood Sugar goes over 8 (about 140 US measurements) my body wants to flush the extra glucose out, and I've woken up sweating in bed several nights because of it, or had to pee 2-4 times through the night due to the highs. I tend to be much more normal during the day, but I have had a hard time restricting off foods after 4pm (even salad with an olive-oil dressing sends it up to 9 mmol/l at night), and I really, REALLY need some restful sleep.

There are good and difficult things to say as a diabetic type 1 using magnesium and vitamin D. My body feels better than I have in years, my sleep feels more natural, and I have hope in living again. My cheeks flush pink when I'm out in the cold weather, my face gets warm when I eat and hit that 7 mmol/l range. That's -so- rare for me without any D supplementation!

I haven't had hunger pangs since I was 15 and developed type 1 diabetes. It happened ten months after I got my first cavity filled with dental amalgam, and the data against mercury poisoning is overwhelming ( http://www.flcv.com/diabetes.html
). I'd love to get rid of all my fillings (I've lost two teeth to root canals in the past two years), but it has to come at the speed I can manage. Magnesium and zink are two of the elements that help in chelation, and for now I have to let that be the case (l-argenine from avacados and vitamin D3 is my other defense). I'm using acai-berry tea here and there for the antioxidant properties too.

My hunger is for a bit of pointers on the hypo/hyperthyroidisim thing, as, after all, I'm well-familiar with the swollen-throat feeling, and it's very undesireable to go running around with the post-nasal drip and the issues breathing. It doesn't seem to be an issue stimulated by the citralopram/antidepressant, as it only occurs after taking the levythyroxine.

Advice and pointers are very welcome. I don't care too much if I get a scolding, that's ok. I'm learning!
Thank you,
-illys

extra info: Muscle tone improving well, activity changing at right ear where there has been some hearing damage. Fat feels very much like it's 'hanging', always happens after a high dose of vit D3. Concentrating on pilates (resistance bands) and regular walking/hiking for excercise. Blood type O, somewhat swine-o-phobic. Stomach dumps contents pretty quickly if drinking water with a little Sea Salt in it, but otherwise have had a few positive floaters in the toilet, and the digestive end-result has been between firm and lightly soft, with little smell. The color is pretty consistent, middling/light soil brown.

Changing diet and supplements hasn't been hard.. changing mindset is the longer journey, but it's been odd and confusing on higher doses of Vitamin D3. My prayer life is much different, the Holy Spirit answers back much more than I'm used to. >.o Has anyone else experienced a spiritual revolution this year? I'm studying the bible and dreams/prophetic symbols more these days, because I want a good grasp on what's going on.

Here's the info on how Vitamin D3 works in neurons/chelation/lowering blood pressure: //www.curezone.org/ig/i.asp?i=51655
