Re: clean for 1 year
Apparently you either went to a really bad meeting area - or you just didn't "Get it"
AA is not a cult by any stretch of the imagination.
I'm glad you found some relief in the route you took, but why ruin the chances for others who are not on your route?
There are many reasons AA has met a lower success rate since the 70s...and it has nothing to do with the actual program - but in the way alcoholism has been addressed in treatment facilities.
The PROGRAM of AA has nothing to do with the meetings and I will absolutely agree that there are some pretty bad meetings out there. This does not take away from the fact the program will work for someone actually willing to be honest - rid themselves of resentment and actually change everything they have been doing that is not working.
While drinking I was extremely limited with my choices...I was in the grips of an illness that robbed me of all dignity and choice. As a RECOVERED alcoholic I have complete freedom of choice. I found this in the PROGRAM of AA. A cult robs you of free thinking and free will...AA has given me back ALL my choices in life. I would not be here without the friends who have pulled me through by teaching me the PROGRAM.
Sorry it didn't work for you - but don't you think you're a little self centered in thinking it would not work for others? For the 25 percent it does help - why would you take that away with such hatred?
I'm very glad my program has taught me to be rid of resenetments...to be free of hatred and blaming others for my own failures...and has given me the freedom today to be whatever I chose to be as I'm free from the bondage of addiction.
Humbly,
Me
Hugs and keep on the sober side! There is always room for improvement in all areas of life.
