Verse 3,: “Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord? And who shall stand in his holy place?”
Who is legitimately qualified to “ascend the hill of the Lord”? Who has genuinely “clean hands and a pure heart” (v.4)? There is truly only one, and it is He whom David majestically described as “the King of glory” (v.7) – i.e., the Lord Jesus Christ. And that is what makes the justification of the saints such a miraculous wonder: through the gift of faith, God declares as righteous those who trust in Christ alone for their salvation. Then they, too, like their Savior, are counted as having “clean hands and a pure heart,” and are thus able to “ascend the hill of the Lord.” “Marvelous grace of our loving Lord”!
