Re: Iodine Slander

Here's one email I wrote to a local talk show:

I just wanted to let you know that I’ve been taking about 50 mg of Iodine daily for roughly the past 3 years. My health has improved greatly due to it. The USRDA is 150 mcg, which is the minimum amount to protect from goiter. Therefore, I’m taking about 333% more than the USRDA. For some reason, when it comes to vitamins, such as C, this is not crazy, but with Iodine everybody freaks out.

This is not for fear of nuclear fallout, but rather because after considerable study, I have become convinced that Americans are undernourished with respect to this vital element. Mostly due to the depletion of our soils and our bad diets.

I could probably talk for hours on this, but basically understand that your thyroid hormones are built with iodine. They are actually named based on how many Iodine atoms are in them: T4, T3, T2 and T1. Iodine is a halogen and it is rapidly being displaced with other, lesser, halogens in our bodies that harm us: Fluoride in toothpaste and drinking water, Chloride in drinking water and pools, Bromide in fire suppression substances that our mattresses and furniture are coated in as well as pesticides. Supplementation of Iodine helps to restore the natural balance. In today’s modern, chemical-laden society, we need more Iodine than ever.

The thyroid and it’s hormones control our metabolism. (Can I get a “FAT!!”?) By supplying our bodies with a sufficient amount of iodine, we have a better chance of winning the battle of the bulge. I’m willing to bet that both of you are on the hypo-thyroid side of things, meaning that you tend to pile on the pounds, since you’re not out swinging a hammer or running marathons like the freak. Therefore, your bodies have a much more difficult time burning off excess calories. With your thyroid hormones damaged by the toxins mentioned above, the challenge to stay trim is even greater.

Additionally, there are those that have found the supplementation of Iodine priceless in the battle against cancer: http://breastcancerchoices.org/iodineindex.html

There are some very excellent articles by some brilliant doctors that “think outside the box” that can be read here:

There is a vibrant users group which discusses the subject:

I’m just a guy who has spent maybe hundreds of hours researching this stuff and experimenting on myself. I know as far as experts go, a microphone trumps all of that, but I really wish a lot of the misinformation would cease. You could really help yourselves as well as your loved-ones and listeners by looking in to this. I certainly have found it worth my time.

Whether or not the imminent fallout necessitates Iodine supplementation is up for debate. There are other radioisotopes that will be inhaled and ingested as well, such as Krypton and Xenon, to which no amount of Iodine will protect.
