Reposting: Converting IodiNE to IodiDE, using Lugols

Reposting something that seems important, so it doesn't get buried -- the following link talks about mixing Lugols with witamin C powder (Vitamin C powder is the same thing as ascorbic acid) to turn the Iodine in the Lugol's into IodiDE.

That link is the only place I've seen that so far. Assuming it is correct, then people who only have some Lugol's available can increase their intake of Iodide by mixing the Lugol's they have with vitamin C powder, and therefore provide more protection to their thyroids in the event of nuclear disaster.

Right? Anyone?

If you are late into this discussion, it seems to already be agreed that the Iodide form is the one that protects the thyroid from radation, not the Iodine form.
