When you say salt water gives you problems, that makes me wonder if potassium chloride is what you need.

Hypoglycemia is a stress symptom. This causes potassium to be excreted in the urine and salt to be retained. Adelle Davis suggests that the unpleasant feelings of hypoglycemia may be relieved by taking potassium chloride tablets.
