BBC and Aung San Suu Kyi
Did anyone else listen to the BBC last eve (early am Mountain Standard Time) and their 2 hour interview with BBC and Aung San Suu Kyi?
It was a most remarkable use of electronic media. She is of course a the Burmese political opposition person, house arrest several times, an iconic person for working for civil rights in her country. What was remarkable about this was the BBC conducted this interview from her house in Burma (Myanmar), the interviewers were in the UK and Burma, and people participated from around the globe. It was an amazing moment of electronic collectiveness as people from everywhere were Facebooking, Twittering, and calling to BBC to ask her questions or make comments.
Especially when someone from Cairo, part of this opposition movement, called in to ask her a question about the pursuit of democracy. He in Cairo, she in Burma, the interviewers and electronic nexus in the UK. It was exhilarating to listen to this collective exchange, especially if one knew the historic background of all the people involved in this phone call circuit.
Did anyone else hear this? Am quite curious....
There is another reason for asking but will post on that later. Having to do with Freedom of Electronic Democracy.
