Re: Stevia - sugar alternative.
I concur with all this Spuds and HV.... 20 years ago I was drinking 2-3 glasses of diet soda a day and while it took a bit to come to grips with the wreckage this was creating, once I did stop, the change was dramatic. That was the beginning of many wake up calls....
Since then have done all the research and read the horrific stories, Rumsfeld jamming it through the FDA, and on and on. And it is not just having seen what it does to me, but have seen the overt responses to people who drink diet sodas. Weight gain. Mood swings. Headaches.
The quintessential example to me is a family member who is addicted to diet sodas, drinking upwards of a case a day. He is also diabetic. Severe. Drinks and drugs to way excess. The phrase "you have got to be kidding me" comes to mind. His health is spiralling of course. You would think neuropathy and vessels in the eyes bleeding out might be a shot across the bow. But no. There is nothing one can do because the person also has a terrible temper.
Aspartame just enhances it. So all I tell the person is when they expire, we won't be able to use their organs because they will be so toxic and turned to plastic anyway.
Fortunately it is not a blood relation so I can harbour cynical feelings and not feel my conscience move very much.
Bad stuff, aspartame. All excitotoxins. I watched a family member go headlong into a cardiac event ending up with a defib/pacemaker, only to find out after all was said and done they had become addicted to Ramen noodles, with all their wonderful excitotoxins that are a cardiologist's best friend.
Ah, to dream of a garden with things like stevia, and a zillion other foods and plants to make essential oils... a good dream to aspire to....
