Great advice Hv, I'm not a fan of bananas, ate too many as a kid, and now can't stand the taste. I do grow banana plants for my Grandkids though. They seem to do very well, in a sheltered environment, even in my area of the country.
I like the less sweet varieties for cooking with, and when you grow them yourself, there are no nasties to worry about.
I'm growing lady finger bananas for the kids, they are a small, but very sweet variety, and perfect for growing in temperate climates.
They do need a lot of water though, or the fruit will be very dry.
