Re: More Nettles!" National Be Nice to Nettles Week"
spud, I remember coming across "National Be Nice To Nettles Week" via a recipe for "Lady Ridley's Nettle soup". That's how to popularize the nettle!
So, they were not just for the poor among us, we might then think! I recall being laughed at as a child for eating the fiddleheads that grew beside the stoop--now quite the 'gourmet' treat.

Not sure if it's in here, but it used the fresh young nettle leaves, and basically made a cream soup with them. Sounds quite wonderful. Might add some dried mushrooms...This is all sounding like cool wather food. I'd like to try it with almond milk, if I can catch the nettles this year, in the ravine near where I live. (citybound still, alas :-)
Spring always seems to arrive ansd speed away so fast!
“Within the Buckingham Palace gardens nettles play an important role in the wildlife habitat areas providing a valuable food source for caterpillars. I hope National Be Nice to Nettles Week is a great success and congratulate CONE on this exciting initiative.”
