Re: O/T Beware the seductions of sociable machines.

very On Topic it seems to me, since we (living sentient beings with the power to reason) become ineffectual through giving away all sentience to the "sociable machines", in exchange for 'an ability to feel'. Like an addict that begins to believe the pusher is the saviour/the friend, and not the delivery system, one is in grave danger of being "unsustainable", sooner rather than later.

yes, I've been thinking about this. Soon, we will have been pefectly pre-programmed to accept androids in stores, who will ar first not be recosnizable as such, but will look healthy and very caring, and have warm 'flesh'. One will move close, smile, offer a kindly hand under an elbow, and ask "may I help you?". The generation that's been "anime'd" to the point that thay can put on makeup to look as 'real' as the anime characters, is already totally ready for this, and thinks it's cool. (as with the robotic pets) The subtle danger in it all is summed up, here:

We move from "I have a feeling, I want to make a call" to "I want to have a feeling, I need to send a text".

This attunement first to having "feelings" , that then cahnges to "I want to feel" is a form of imposed tyranny that the self welcomes and imposes on the self. So, as with all the things (extra policing, loss of personal freedoms) that were "asked for" after 9/11, they were "received". Insidious!
