those were redwing blackbirds which were already in heavy decline. i noticed the meadowlarks were gone years ago. in fact, most song birds are nearly gone. i see bluejays(rare), cardinals and mockingbirds, a few wrens and woodpeckers and thats it. i was a bird watcher as a child. after 26 years away in alaska i noticed the missing birds right away. that was in 2004.
