New Years: What Should a Muslim Do?

On a trip to the market today I saw a man who sells me vegetables. He is always very nice and asks for my health and well being.

Today he tells me that he spent the whole night praying in the Mosque. Why? His sheik told him it was better to spend the nights in prayer than to celebrate. What a wonderful bit of information this was and oh so true.

Should we not be thanking Allah for his bounty and for his mercy during the last year? Should we not be asking for Allah's protection and mercy for the coming year? Everything we have and or will reap will be from the mercy of Allah.

As we see others shooting fireworks off and watching the ball drop and getting drunk, let us as Muslims rush to prayer and seek Allah's foregiveness for our past sins and deeds. Let us as Muslims look for the bounty of Allah and hope for all good in the coming days.
