I agree with this completely and have also always thought of rest as active or passive. Hatha Yoga is the most powerful way I've ever achieved active rest. But it has to be done right with correct breathing, deliberate movement and rest between poses equal to the duration for the poses.
With active rest you reach a level of relaxation way way deeper than lounging around the house, a nice vacation, etc. And when I do yoga before bedtime, I wake up without being sleepy or groggy in the least. Basically alert, rested and full of energy from all that deep breathing and stretching the night before.
