What is wrong with me?!?!
Hi guys. I'm new on this site but I have been browsing for a while. I'm male, 20 years old at the University of Sheffield.
Summer last year I started getting some serious digestive issues. I was drinking a lot of casein protein with milk everyday (about 3 pints at least). Due to the fact I had had no digestive issues up until that point I took my health for granted so I didn't realise the danger of having that much casein (very hard to digest milk protein).
I went to the doctor and told him my symptoms. He observed that my skin was slightly yellow. He sent me for a blood test, which confirmed that I have Gilbert's Syndrome (supposedly a mild liver disorder in which the liver doesn't produce enough of one particular enzyme which is responsible for breaking down the toxin called bilirubin). The symptoms of this particular disorder are meant to be extremely mild (showing themselves in particular when you are ill or stressed out). The symptoms are jaundice of the skin and sometimes the eyes as well as potential fatigue (which I don't have) and maybe stomach problems. Typically the NHS don't actually know the connection between the stomach problem and the disorder but I was just warned that sometimes sufferers complain about it.
I have suffered with the following digestive issues for the last year:
1) Yellow stool (sometimes very bright)
2) Constipation (not so bad to stop me going full stop but bad enough that I strain for ages)
3) Bad breath
4)
Sugar cravings (changes from time to time)
5) Mucus in stools
6) Constant abdominal distention (my stomach has not been flat in a year)
7) Initially I had very loud tummy rumblings but these subsided after a while
8) White coated tongue from a candida infection no doubt
9) Acid Reflux, which has improved massively after eating a
healthy Diet for just a week
I'm very confident I have a candida infection, however I'm not convinced this is my only problem. I'm worried that maybe I might have SIBO as well or maybe my liver IS actually causing some of my other problems.
What do you guys think? Is there anything you could suggest to me? I'm desperate for an answer as this is really messing with my confidence, which is a pretty important element of a University lifestyle.
