I just want to say that i saw your post and wanted to comment:- I am a 53 year old male,I take Amitriptyline but only 25 mgs It was prescribed me almost 10 years ago now, due to a neck injury, falling 17 feet from a ladder! In my case its prescribed for nerve root pain, (without it i am awake most of the night with pains in my arms) i understand its also prescribed as a Anti depressant, also a mild sedative,there is one more reason its prescribed which i just cant remember?as regards alcohol and Amitriptyline please don't! For 2 reasons (a)Not a good combination,It will accelerate the strength of your meds !(i will only take a drink if 4 hours have passed since taking my meds)it could render you unable to fight off an attacker!(depending on the strength of your dosage (b) I had a beautiful sister who died because of mixing alcohol with her meds ! She was just 46 and left behind some beautiful kids ! My Mother also used the same medication, she would take 2 around 8pm but if someone called late she could rouse herself but Mum didn't use alcohol or rarely did !
