Re: Hveragerthi: your input appreciated

I appreciate your response and I have read your review of "Fiber Menace" as found in that post. I have trouble with some of what Mr. M says, I don't necessarily believe anything I read lol. I don't know that I had diverticulitis, it was the apparent diagnosis due to the fact that large intestine in every way appeared normal except for ring of inflammation in sigmoid colon and WBC was elevated to 15,000. However, the Antibiotics almost killed me (literally), I had to stop taking them after three days and it took me weeks to get my bowel back to normal because of them. One week after CT I had x-rays of abdomen and WBC was taken, both were normal.

I have eliminated meat for a while now since it appears to cause a more difficult BM (a bit "harder" than normal and more need to strain). I eat chicken once a week and fish once or twice but I do eat a lot of pasta and potatoes (with skin) along with vegetables (I've always eaten a great many vegetables), cheese (once or twice weekly), eggs, tuna. I have been eating a lot more "fattening" foods because I needed to make up the weight lost after the Antibiotic fiasco (9 pounds which is a lot for me at 5'1"). I exercise regularly at a speed intended for cardiopulmonary health (on treadmill). I've never had any sort of GI problem and don't have one now. I'm extremely reluctant to have colonoscopy, it seems a hugely unnatural process (empty large intestine totally), very invasive and I've read and heard that some people develop problems AFTER the test and prep that they never had before. I'm also not convinced by the P.R. Last evening on the news endoscopy was addressed (very quickly given the information) stating that three times the number of injury reported regarding colonoscopy actually occur; ERs demonstrate this. I won't have one of these tests unless it's absolutely unavoidable due to recurrent problem. I'll look into kefir (I believe that's "Greek yogurt"?) and sources of oat bran and rice bran.
