as long as people identify themselves with the thinking mind rather than consciousness itself, they take any disagreement with their "thoughts" as a personal attack on their "self" or ego and will defend to their death their "thoughts" as if they had some life of their own.

Einstein was expressing the concept of being religious(spiritual) without being bound by thoughts or beliefs. He was ahead of
his time.

You are bound by your thoughts of the political right when
in fact they are mostly just an expression of your personality. Others are bound by their thoughts of libertarianism or socialism.
