Absolutely TN2, The sandy soil in my area actually repels water, native plants have adapted to this over millions of years, but most of our food plants have not.

I add tons of compost and organic matter to the soil to enable it to retain any water it gets, this also feeds the worms and micro-organisms that give life to the soil. Water crystals are also great in pots, as they dry out much quicker.

Healthy soil is essential to healthy plant growth, and in turn healthy food.
