Taapeworms

Does anyone know of a test for tapeworms? My elderly mother, who lives several states away, thinks she has one. Is there a lab that is reliable for testing? What is the best way to get rid of a tapeworm. She has been gradually losing what is now quite a bit of weight. Whatever it is seems to be stealing all of her nutrition.
