I mentioned the same problem in "ask CZ", in the CZ ranking thread. I'll reiterate here, moderating is a thankless job unless one has a vested interest in the subject at hand, also, people get busy and don't have time...

Moderators are often criticized for what they do AND what they don't do, I certainly understand why many choose to remain anonymous.

CZ used to be moderated by a tight crew- Southernbelle, Alikat, Invincible, Lapis, Hannah, Owen, Wren to name a few. Webmaster changed the structure a few years ago and made them "global mods"(not necessarily all of them, I don't recall who was still active at the time) with other CZ members moderating one or two public forums. There is a survey in the CZ knowledge base on the moderator elections.

At the time things were changed there was criticism that it wouldn't work. Well, My personal opinion is that new mods have to be appointed on a regular basis, global AND local moderators, just for the reasons I cited above... people don't have time, interest wanes, etc.
