Ascites pain and inability to eat. Will my friend vomit up Berkson's protocol, or will it cause extreme pain?

Hi,

I must be lousy at searching the internet because I've probably easily put 100 hours into finding anybody with similar side effects, and how they will affect either Dr. Burt Berkson's protocol, or a protocol based on some sort of bioavailable curcumin, and found nothing.

My friend has a discompensated liver, with the main pain being the ascites. He can't eat anything. A lot of bad advise floats around, but found many, many hits on how good carrot or carrot + spinich juice is for his condition. He drank literally 2 oz. of fresh carrot juice, and 15 minutes later was racked by pain and didn't eat another bite for 5 days. Then he ate a couple spoonfuls of yogurt, same exact thing happened, but this time he forced himself to throw up. For months now he hasn't had more than a half a piece of painful bread, or a painful egg, and gaps of 3-4 days in between these paltry "meals". I don't know how he stays alive. He's half crazy & irrational due to encephalopathy. He's getting so bad I'm getting a little bent out of shape myself!

We're in Thailand, and he's a relatively uneducated Indian man. He doesn't trust taking pills, and Berkson's Therapy requires plenty 2 Alpha Lipoic acid 300 mg pills, 3 Milk thistle pills, 2 selenium pills, and I don't know how much multi-B vitamins. each day. Plus there is a host of other items that are recommended, but these 4 are the bottom line. And I have a feeling the B's will be real hard on the liver.

Is the Lipoic acid going to burn? How will any of this affect his liver in terms of pain? He's really afraid of all this. His brain is so toxic, he doesn't trust any of my best intentions. Up until today the only thing he was drinking was Tumeric Tea, which burns inside him. He quit today after only about 5 days.

Is the 15 minutes a clue as to where the pain is coming from? Is that about the amount of time before it gets to the liver? Or is it a stomach thing.

His stomach can't hold anything else, it is occupied by a ball of congealed black blood. He has this in his peritoneal cavity as well. As he gets better will this get reabsorbed by the body? Or will he have to get tapped?

Does anyone have any idea, if he started this program how long before he might experience some relief from the ascites? Is there a way to address the ascites directly?
Saul Pressman said watemelon juice as a diuretic - but how does this clear the gunk in the peritoneum? I met a non-blind man who studied blind acupuncture in Japan. Very strange fellow. He said he helped a cancer patient with ascites, but he died of cancer. Not the best recommendation? But do you think acupuncture could help him drain, and take away the pain?

I'm wondering also about some form of bioavailable curcumin, I think I might be able to lay my hands on the real deal - nano curcumin. If so, can anyone suggest a protocol for that?

In the meantime he needs to eat something besides water (which gives him some pain too). I was thinking honey might at least give him something. Thai doctors said no sugar, but said glucose would be OK. Honey is more natural.

Forgive any rambling, I have my own 'brain fog' going from leaky gut from UC.

Thanks for bearing with this long post. Many questions!
Got answers? Or links?

Thanks,

Buzzer
