Re: Consecutive fasts? 2 x 10 day, rather than 1 x 20 day??

All advice already provided is wonderful, especially from Chris. I agree especially with what he shares about hitting rock bottom with one's health and it being fairly easy to focus on healing. I was in an extreme circumstance with my health having undergone multiple reconstructive bone operations over a 2 year period to restore the mobility in one of my legs. Motorcycle accident. I agree that when you're in the space of healing or having undergone any similar health circumstance your motivation escalates to extraordinary levels. You become very focused on getting well and doing anything you can to do this. Fasting was easy for me when I was able to do it from this space ironically. My first Water Fast was 30 days.

However, the self-discipline to Water Fast wore off for me after I had fully healed and picked up some familiar and old habits. I found myself in self-sabotage mode. I'd only be able to Water Fast for a short time before mental cravings started taking over. I'd last maybe 2 days. I know in hindsight much of this stems from residual trauma & PSTD from the accident I still needed to heal. I had been self-medicating with food. What worked for me was to start with 3 day fasts, then I escalated to 10 days and eventually I was able to complete another extended water fast and the healing benefits were tremendous. In between each fast, I refed for at least one to two months with a primarily high raw foods diet and plenty of juicing.

In summary, don't fight where ever you happen to be. Just flow with it and do what you can do now. Don't look at it as failing or a negative, simply know you're taking steps to get to your ultimate goal.

My recommendation would be to start with what you can accomplish. Perhaps plan for a 3 day fast, break it successfully, refeed with the foods you notated above and extend your water fast when you fast again. Mentally this may be very motivating for you as it will register that you successfully completed a planned water fast vs. failing at fasting. See the difference?
