Apparently the ancient Egyptians also were drinking kombucha tea. It seems the western world is a little behind on this. The Chinese, the Russians, and ancient Egyptians drank this stuff. I am finding this subject really fascinating and doing a lot of research into this lately. My friends even started up their own company selling kombucha kits and teaching people how to make their own at home. Its super healthy and super cheap to make. The biggest challenge I have found, is making it really tasty. Its not that hard, but everyone has their own preference really. Personally I love it with a lot of ginger root in there, and it really has to be chilled for me to get into it.
