Fantastic ideas, as always CK. The inefficiency of house styles built in Australia over the last few decades, mirrors much of what you are seeing being built in the US. Box type, very large houses, with windows that don't even open, and climate controlled with artificial heating and air conditioning, are becoming the norm in a country where this is just plain madness. When there is a power outage in summer, (and there often is due to electrical storms or extreme heat), these houses become like ovens.

Also it is a very unhealthy environment to be constantly breathing recycled internal air.

You have brought up some very good points on how the design of a house can be a very important factor in energy efficiency and health.

Do you have any examples (photos if you have them), of your friends designs and work?
