In addition, I discovered that organic produce from Mexico to the US is often irradiated. Tomatoes are irradiated as it gives them a 4 week shelf life where they stay firm and red. I found this out the hard way. One forgotten organic tomato discovered in my kitchen several weeks after family had visited. It was still firm and red just like when I purchased it from Safeway. So I let it sit on the kitchen counter a few more weeks...still mostly firm and red when I finally disposed of it.
