What are essential oils? How to use them for therapeutic benefit. What to look for when selecting an oil.

What are essential oils?  How to use them for therapeutic benefit.  What to look for when selecting an oil.

ALL INFORMATION IN THIS POST IS FROM MY PERSONAL RESEARCH AND OPINIONS ON THE SUBJECT OF THE THERAPEUTIC USE OF ESSENTIAL OILS. I OFFER IT HERE ONLY TO SHARE MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE AFTER 8 YEARS OF RESEARCHING AND USING ESSENTIAL OILS. THIS IS NOT AN ENDORSEMENT FOR ANY COMPANY OR PRODUCER OF ESSENTIAL OILS. SIMPLY INFORMATION SHARING. AS ALWAYS, YOU NEED TO DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH AND THEN DECIDE WHAT IS BEST FOR YOU.

Essential oils are the oils of a plant.  Just as in all natural sources today, there is a difference in what is available.  When purchasing food that you did not grow, you need to know its source and what has been done in the planting, growing, harvesting and getting it to market.  There is deceptive marketing, labeling and 'buzz words' that need to be watched for.   The same is true with essential oils.

The world of essential oils is mainly made up of aroma/perfume grade oils.  This grade of essential oils is not therapeutic or healing.  The most important thing for a consumer is to get educated and learn the marketing tactics used by companies to sell their oils as a therapeutic oil.  Words like "100% pure, organic or even therapeutic" do not mean that their essential oils are an oil that will give the healing and health benefits you desire.  MOST essential oils being sold today do not contain the necessary naturally occurring compounds.  They are improperly distilled, diluted, cut, adulterated or not even plant based.

Many oils, touted as essential oils, are derived with harsh chemicals, diluted, or copied and produced in a lab. Cheap copies bring cheap results and have the potential to be toxic. Therefore, it’s important to choose high-quality essential oils.

The process used when planting, cultivating, harvesting, and distilling a batch of oil is crucial to retaining its vital compounds. Without the exact blend of naturally-occurring plant chemicals, an essential oil can lose its beneficial properties and fail to produce the desired effect.

Some important points you need to research BEFORE buying essential oils if you are looking to get therapeutic results.  Any company that is promoting their essential oils as 100% pure, organic, and therapeutic should be able to give you information on the plant origin/source and what parts of the plants are used, the harvesting, the distillation process, and how the oil is tested for purity and what the key constituents are and at what percent.  Are their oils cut or adulterated in the distilling process.  Do they buy their oils from suppliers that are respected and trusted to offer therapeutic oils or better yet do they grow their plants and distill them?

An example of information you should be given:

Lavender (Lavandula angustfolia)

Plant Origin: Utah, Idaho, France

Extraction Method: Steam distilled from flowering top

Key Constituents:

Linalyl Acetate (24-45%)

Linalol (25-38%)

Cis-beta-Ocimene (4-10%)

Trans-beta Ocimene (1.5-6%)

Terpinene-4-ol (2-6%)

ORAC: 360 uTE/100g

The percentages listed in the key constituents show a lower and higher percent.  This is due to the variance of each constituent that naturally occurs in the plants.  It is the range that needs to be present in an oil for it to have the quality for therapeutic use.

The ORAC reading is another way to assure that the oil you buy is of a therapeutic quality.

ORAC Reading:

A test developed by USDA researchers at Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts, has been able to identify the highest known antioxidant foods. Known as ORAC (oxygen radical absorbance capacity), this test is the first of its kind to measure both time and degree of free-radical inhibition. All antioxidant capacity measures are estimated by Ferric Reducing Power and are expressed as micromole Trolox equivalent (TE) per 100 grams, accurate to plus or minus 5%

WARNING:

ORAC scores are based on 100 grams of product.

EXAMPLE:
If you see an advertisement for "XYZ" Juice claiming to have 1,600 or 1,700 ORAC units in EVERY SERVING.

BEWARE!( Unless the serving size is 3.57 fluid ounces / 100 grams. )

ORAC readings are for the equivalent of 100 grams of the product being tested.

There are 28 grams in one fluid ounce.

This means it would take 3.57 fluid ounces to equal 100 grams.

The 4 P's of quality therapeutic grade essential oils:

Plants
An oil's potency can be affected not only by selecting the proper plant to cultivate, but also by where the plant is grown, the quality of soil in which the seed is planted, and even the time of day it's harvested.

Selecting the correct species of plant for desired oil potency, planting under optimal conditions, using ideal soil and natural methods to encourage growth, and knowing the precise time to harvest each crop. Only those plants that produce the most active and widest array of therapeutic compounds should be selected.

Preparation
Once the optimal soil, plant, cultivation, and harvesting conditions have been adhered to, the plants must be distilled properly useing a gentle, technique for steam-extracting the most potent essential oils.

Proper temperature must be maintained throughout the distillation process, and pressure, length of time, equipment, and batch size strictly monitored.

Purity
A company whose standards prohibit the acceptance of any diluted, cut or adulterated oils and meets strict purity standards.

Every batch of essential oils should be subjected to rigorous, state-of-the-art analysis at a chemistry lab for Gas Chromatograph and Mass Spectrometer testing, and heavy metals analysis. Oils that exhibit even the slightest hint of possible adulteration or tampering should be rejected.

Potency
The culmination of the preceding three stages, Potency means that the naturally occurring compounds contained in each essential oil product are of the highest and most consistent bioactive levels. Without strict adherence to the standard in the Plant, Preparation, and Purity phases, the final product would not have the necessary potency to create the desired effect.

Now that you understand the basics of what a therapeutic-grade essential oil is, it is time to learn the "WHY" an essential can be of therapeutic benefit.  The next sections will give you some important information of what quality essential oils and their compounds, constituents and frequency are.

Essential Oil Compounds:

PHENOLS AND PHENYLPROPANOIDS

Phenols and Phenylpropanoids are compounds of carbon-ring molecules incorporating on isoprene unit. They are sometimes called hemiterpenes. There are dozens of varieties of phenylpropanoids. They are found in Clove (90%), Cassia (80%), Basil (75%), Cinnamon (73%), Oregano (60%), Anise (50%), and Peppermint (25%).

While they can create conditions where unfriendly viruses and bacteria cannot live, the most important function performed by phenylpropanoids is that they clean the receptor sites on the cells. Without clean receptor sites cells cannot communicate, and the body malfunctions, resulting in sickness.

MONOTERPENES

Monoterpenes are compounds of two isoprene units, which is ten carbon atoms and sixteen hydrogen atoms per molecule--molecule weight 136 amu. There are an estimated 2,000 varieties of monoterpenes.

Monoterpenes are found in most essential oils: Galbanum (80%), Angelica (73%), Hyssop (70%), Rose of Sharon (54%), Peppermint (45%), Juniper (42%), Frankincense (40%), Spruce (38%), Pine (30%), Cyress (28%), and Myrtle (25%).

While offering a variety of healing properties, the most important ability of the monoterpenes is that they can reprogram miswritten information in the cellular memory (DNA). With improper coding in cellular memory, cells malfunction and diseases result, including lethal ones, such as cancer.

SESQUITERPENES

Sesquiterpenes are compounds of three isoprene units, which is fifteen carbons and twenty-four hydrogens per molecule--molecule weight 204 amu. There are more than 10,000 kinds of sesquiterpenes.

Sesquiterpenes are the principal constituents of Cedarwood (98%), Vetiver (97%), Spikenard (93%), Sandalwood (Aloes)90%, Black Pepper (74%), Patchouli (71%), Myrrh (62%), and Ginger (59%). They are also found in Galbanum, Onycha, and Frankincense (8%).

Sesquiterpene molecules deliver oxygen molecules to cells, like hemoglobin does in the blood. Sesquiterpenes can also erase or deprogram miswritten codes in celluar memory. Sesquiterpenes are thought to be especially effective in fighting cancer. The root problem with a cancer cell is that it contains misinformation, and sesquiterpenes can delete that garbled information. At the same time the oxygen carried by sesquiterpene molecules creates an environment where cancer cells can't reproduce. Hence, sesquiterpenes deliver cancer cells a double punch--one that disables their coded misbehavior and a second that stops their growth.

The American Medical Association (AMA) has said that if they could find an agent that would pass the blood-brain barrier, they would be able to find cures for ailments such as Lou Gehrig's disease, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's disease, and Parkinson's disease. Such agents already exist and have been available since Biblical times. The agents, of course, are essential oils--particularly those containing the brain oxygenating molecules of sesquiterpenes.

THE TRIPLE WHAMMY

The big triple punch combination of "PMS" (Phenylpropanoids, Monoterpenes, and Sesquiterpenes) found in essential oils is probably one of the major aspects responsible for the therapeutic power familiar to essential oil users. Many oils containing PMS have been found to be useful in addressing many illnesses, injuries, and disease conditions. One hypothesis is that this combination offers the following actions:

1. Cleanse Receptor Sites: Phenols and phenylpropanoids can act to clean receptor sites on the surfaces of cells. This allows the proper transfer of hormones, peptides, neurotransmitters, steroids, and other intracellular messengers.

2. Deprogram Bad Information: Sesquiterpenes seem to work at the sub-cellular level by affecting membrane fluidity and facilitating oxygen transfer. Sesquiterpenes may also affect transport of material inside the cell. This allows for access to DNA and RNA which may offer a scientific basis for "deprogramming or erasing the incorrect information from cellular memory" often referred to in holistic healing circles.

3. Reprogram Correct Information: Monoterpenes, working at both sub-cellular and intracellular levels, protect against free radical damage and work within cells to produce properly programed strands of RNA and DNA. This helps insure proper cell-to-cell communication and maintain healthy bodily functions. Many refer to this as "reprogramming the cells".

These three classes of chemical components may be why essential oils sometimes affect a healing that is nearly instant and also permanent. What they simply do is to restore the body back to its natural state of balance and health at the most basic and fundamental levels within the cells.

There you have it in a nutshell: The way the blood-brain barrier works and the biochemistry of one of the ways essential oils can help achieve a healing.

Essential Oil Constituents

In general, pure essential oils can be subdivided into two distinct groups of chemical constituents; the hydrocarbons which are made up almost exclusively of terpenes (monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes, and diterpenes), and the oxygenated compounds which are mainly esters, aldehydes, ketones, alcohols, phenols, and oxides.

Terpenes - inhibit the accumulation of toxins and help discharge existing toxins from the liver and kidneys.

Sesquiterpenes are antiseptic and anti-inflammatory. They work as a liver and gland stimulant and contain caryophyllene and valencene. Research from the universities of Berlin and Vienna show increased oxygenation around the pineal and pituitary glands. Further research has shown that sesquiterpenes have the ability to surpass the blood-brain barrier and enter the brain tissue. Other sesquiterpenes, like chamazulene and farnesol, are very high in anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial activity. Chamazulene may be found in chamomile, tansy, and yarrow.

Farnesene is anti-viral in action.

Limonene has strong anti-viral properties and has been found in 90% of the citrus oils.

Pinene has strong antiseptic properties and may be found in high proportions in the conifer oils such as pine, fir, spruce, and juniper.

Other terpenes include camphene, cadinene, cedrene, dipentene, phellandrene, terpinene, sabinene, and myrcene.

Esters - are the compounds resulting from the reaction of an alcohol with an acid (known as esterification). Esters are very common and are found in a large number of essential oils. They are anti-fungal, calming and relaxing.

Linalyl acetate may be found in bergamot, Clary sage, and lavender
Geraniol acetate may be found in sweet marjoram.

Other esters include bornyl acetate, eugenol acetate, and lavendulyl acetate.

Aldehydes - are highly reactive and characterized by the group C-H-O (Carbon, Hydrogen, Oxygen). In general, they are anti-infectious with a sedative effect on the central nervous system. They can be quite irritating when applied topically (citral being one example), but may have a profound calming effect when inhaled.

Citral is very common with a distinctive antiseptic action. It also has an anti-viral application as with Melissa oil when applied topically on herpes simplex.

Citronellal is also very common and has the same lemony scent as citral. Along with citral and neral, citronellas may be found in the oils of Melissa, lemongrass, lemon, mandarin, lemon-scented eucalyptus, and citronella.

Elements of aldehydes have also been found in lavender and myrrh. Other aldehydes include benzaldehyde, cinnamic aldehyde, cuminic aldehyde, and perillaldehyde.

Ketones - are sometimes mucolytic and neuro-toxic when isolated from other constituents. However, all recorded toxic effects come from laboratory testing on guinea pigs and rats. No documented cases exist where oils with a high concentration of ketones (such as mugwort, tansy, sage, and wormwood) have ever caused a toxic effect on a human being. Also, large amounts of these oils would have to be consumed for them to result in a toxic neurological effect. Ketones stimulate cell regeneration, promote the formation of tissue, and liquefy mucous. They are helpful with such conditions as dry asthma, colds, flu and dry cough and are largely found in oils used for the upper respiratory system, such as hyssop, Clary sage, and sage.

Thujone is one of the most toxic members of the ketone family. It can be an irritant and upsetting to the central nervous system and may be neuro-toxic when taken internally as in the banned drink Absinthe. Although it may be inhaled to relieve respiratory distress and may stimulate the immune system, it should only be administered by an educated and professional aromatherapist.

Jasmone (found in jasmine) and fenchone (found in fennel) are both non-toxic.

Other ketones include camphor, carvone, menthone, methyl nonyl ketone, and pinacamphone.

Alcohols - are commonly recognized for their antiseptic and anti-viral activities. They create an uplifting quality and are regarded as non-toxic.

Terpene Alcohols stimulate the immune system, work as a diuretic and a general tonic, and are anti-bacterial as well.

Linalol can help relieve discomfort. It may be found in rosewood and lavender.

Citronellol may be found in rose, lemon, eucalyptus, geranium, and others.

Geraniol may be found in geranium as well as palmarosa.

Farnesol may be found in chamomile. It is also good for the mucous.

Other terpene alcohols include borneol, menthol, nerol, terpineol, (which Dr. Gattefosse considered to be a decongestant), vetiverol, benzyl alcohol, and cedrol.

Sesquiterpene Alcohols are anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-mycotic, and ulcer-protective (preventative).

Bisabolol is one of the strongest sesquiterpene alcohols. It may be found in chamomile oils where it also functions well as a fixative.

Phenols - are responsible for the fragrance of an oil. They are antiseptic, anti-bacterial, and strongly stimulating but can also be quite caustic to the skin. They contain high levels of oxygenating molecules and have antioxidant properties.

Eugenol may be found in clove and cinnamon oil.

Thymol is found in thyme and may not be as caustic as other phenols.

Carvacrol may be found in oregano and savory. Researchers believe it may possibly contain some anti-cancerous properties.

Others in the phenol family include methyl eugenol, methyl chavicol anethole, safrole, myristicin, and apiol.

Oxides - According to The American Heritage™ Dictionary of the English Language, an oxide is "a binary compound of an element or a radical with oxygen".

Cineol (or eucalyptol) is by far the most important member of the family and virtually exists in a class of its own. It is anesthetic, antiseptic, and works as an expectorant. Cineol is well known as the principal constituent of eucalyptus oil. It may also be found in rosemary, cinnamon, Melissa, basil, and ravensara.

Other oxides include linalol oxide, ascaridol, bisabolol oxide, and bisabolone oxide.

All pure essential oils have some anti-bacterial properties. They increase the production of white blood cells, which help fight infectious illnesses. It is through these properties that aromatic herbs have been esteemed so highly throughout the ages and so widely used during the onsets of malaria, typhoid, and of course, the epidemic plagues during the 16th century.

Research has found that people who consistently use pure essential oils have a higher level of resistance to illnesses, colds, flues, and diseases than the average person. Further indications show that such individuals, after contracting a cold, flu, or other illness, will recover 60-70 percent faster than those who do not use essential oils.

FREQUENCY AND HOW IT PERTAINS TO ESSENTIAL OILS

Frequency and Distillation
Human Electrical Frequencies and Fields
by Gary Young

"Frequency is defined as a measurable rate of electrical energy flow that is constant between any two points. Everything has an electrical frequency.

Royal Raymond Rife, M.D., developed a "frequency generator" in the early 1920s. With this he found that with certain frequencies he could destroy a cancer cell or a virus. He found that certain frequencies could prevent the development of disease, and others would destroy disease.

Bjorn Nordenstrom, a radiologist of Stockholm, Sweden, who wrote "Biologically Closed Circuits," discovered in the early 1980s that by putting an electrode inside a tumor and running a milliamp D.C. current through the electrode, he could dissolve the cancer tumor and stop its growth. He found that the human body had electropositive and electronegative energy fields.

Clinical research shows that essential oils have the highest frequency of any natural substance known to man, creating an environment in which disease, bacteria, virus, fungus, etc., cannot live. I believe that the chemistry and frequencies of essential oils have the ability to help man maintain the optimal frequency to the extent that disease cannot exist.

Bruce Tainio of Tainio Technology in Cheney, Washington, developed new equipment to measure the biofrequency of humans and foods. He used this biofrequency monitor to determine the relationship between frequency and disease.

Distilled water with 2 drops peppermint has the frequency of 78MHz
With lemon is 76 MHz
Tap water 32 MHz
Chlorinated water is worse than coffee
Measuring in megahertz, it was found that processed foods.
Canned food had a 0 to 15 MHz
Dry herbs from 12-22 MHz;
Fresh produce measured up to 15 to 22 MHz
Fresh herbs from 20-27 MHz.
Essential Oils started at 47 MHz and went as high as 320 MHz,
which is the frequency of rose oil.

Our body and all the organs have their own frequency, here are a few listed.

Normal Brain wave frequency is 72-78 MHz
Visionary Range 120 MHz
Bone 38-43 MHz
From the neck down 62-68 MHz this is a healthy body normal frequency

If the frequency drops just 4 points this is when a headache will start.
58 MHz. Disease begins, Like the cold symptoms
57 MHz Flu invades the body
55 MHz when more serious problems come about like pneumonia,
Epstein Barr and etc.
48 MHz is when tissue breaks down from disease
42 MHz is when cancer can set in
20 MHz death

Clinical research shows essential oils, having the highest frequency of any natural substance known to man, can create an environment in which microbes, disease, bacteria, virus, fungus, etc., cannot live. Truly, the chemistry and frequencies of essential oils have the ability to help man maintain an optimal health frequency.

It is wonderful to discover that essential oil frequencies are several times greater than frequencies of herbs and foods. For years, research has been conducted on the use of electrical energy to reverse disease. Scientists in the field of natural healing have believed there has to be a more natural way to increase the body's electrical frequency. This led to the research and subsequent discovery of electrical frequencies in essential oils.

The more results that have been seen, the more research has been initiated. Unhealthy Substances Cause Frequency Changes.

In one test, the frequency of two individuals - the first a 26 year old male and the second a 24 year old male - was measured at 66 MHz each. The first individual held a cup of coffee (without drinking any), and his frequency dropped to 58 MHz in 3 seconds.

He put the coffee down and inhaled an aroma of essential oils. Within 21 seconds, his frequency had returned to 66 MHz. The second individual took a sip of coffee and his frequency dropped to 52 MHz in the same 3 seconds. However, no essential oils were used during the recovery time, and it took 3 days for his frequency to return to its initial 66 MHz.

Another young man with the frequency of 65 MHz put a cigarette in his hand and his frequency dropped to 56 and when he put it between his lips without lighting it, his frequency dropped to 48 MHz. (Remember what happens when the body's frequency drops to 48? Tissue breakdown from disease. Do you really want to put your body in that kind of jeopardy?

One surprising aspect of this study measured the influence that thoughts have on the body's electrical frequency. Negative thoughts lowered the measured frequency by 12 MHz and positive thoughts raised the measured frequency by 10 MHz. It was also found that prayer and meditation increased the measured frequency levels by 15 MHz.

For instance A young man with the frequency of 64 MHz was asked to think of something negative in 3 seconds his frequency dropped to 57 MHz. He was then asked to think of something positive but his frequency didn't change. Gary asked him if he was thinking positive, yes, he said he was, and still nothing happened. His frequency only came up when he got real excited. He was thinking how great it would be to refinish his car, get his girlfriend and ride down town showing off to his friends.  That was when his frequency returned to 64MHz but it took 21 seconds to rise when he was real postive.

So what I was trying to say is that you do not want to be negative because of the lower frequency it causes in the body and over time with the low frequency disease could set in.

It has been shown that the cells of food and water when prayed over changes. Water looks like a beautiful snowflake after being prayed over.

For a number of years during my clinical practice, I researched the use of electrical energy for the purpose of reversing the disease process. I kept feeling that there had to be a more natural way of increasing a person's electrical frequency, which led to the discovery of the electrical frequency of oils.

One of the things that I noticed with my patients was that they felt better emotionally when they first started to use essential oils. It seemed that, within seconds, congestion would begin to loosen just through simple inhalation of an oil. Certain oils applied on location would decrease pain 50-80 percent within 1-3 minutes. Some even experienced a decrease in pain within seconds. I could not have thought that an oil applied to the bottom of the feet could travel to the neck and reduce pain by 70 percent within one minute. As I saw this happen over and over, I started to realize that there had to be other aspects and elements in the oils that had to be researched.

Once in a while, individuals using an essential oil for the first time will say they broke out with a rash or had an allergic reaction. So many reactions are the body's chemical sensitivity kicking in and saying, "protect me." However, when I worked with people with severe allergies, even universal reactors, once they understood that pure essential oils actually detoxify and help re-establish cellular balance, would calm down and realize they were not having a reaction. It's amazing to see how we in America have become sensitive to things around us, and yet at the same time we are desensitized to the things that are killing us, causing allergies, depressing the immune system, creating a weakness for diseases, such as candida, epstein bar, chronic fatigue syndrome, hypoglycemia, universal reactor symptoms, and other chemical sensitive problems. It just goes from level one to level six, manifesting different symptoms.

Because the sense of smell is so incredible, it is important to understand why we have these sensitivities and reactions. Let's go back to the early days of steam distillation, which is one of the most common ways of extracting oils from plants, trees, shrubs, flowers and herbs. This is done by sending steam into a chamber that holds the raw product. As the steam rises, it stimulates the oil membranes in the plant, causing them to open, thereby releasing the oil molecule that has a micro-fine membrane around it, which is there to protect the oil. If the membrane is fractured while the oil is being released, the oil is damaged, and the molecular structure of the oil is altered. in nature, as the evening cools, the oil comes closer to the surface. As the day begins, the sun's warmth causes this membrane to relax, open and release the oil into the atmosphere.

Vertical steam distillation gives us the greatest potential for protecting the oil and maintaining its integrity in order to protect its therapeutic benefits for fragrance and balancing the body. All of this must work on the areas in the brain that are connected to the limbic system, which affects emotional trauma release, appeases anxiety and helps overcome depression. In ancient distillation, low pressure (5 pounds and under) and low temperature were extremely important in order to have the therapeutic benefits of this gentle process.

Marcel Espieu, who has been the President of the Lavender Growers Association for 21 years in southern France, told me, when I was studying with him, that the best quality of oil would be produced when the pressure was zero pounds during distillation.

Temperature also has a very distinct effect on the oils. At certain temperatures, the oil fragrance, as well as the chemical constituents, can be changed. High pressures and high temperatures seem to cause a harshness in the oil where even the oil pH and the electropositive and electronegative balance are greatly affected.

For example, cypress requires 24 hours at a maximum of 245 degrees at 5 pounds of pressure in order for all of the active constituents and properties to be released. But if it is distilled less than 22 hours, 18-20 of the primary constituents will be missing, which are absolutely essential to the therapeutic application of the oil and the expected response.
However, most of the distilling operations throughout the world distill cypress for only one hour and 15 minutes to 3 hours.

Lavender is distilled in France with a steam temperature of up to 350 degrees and up to 155 pounds of pressure for 15 minutes. Although the oil is easily sold and marketed, it is of very poor quality. The problem we have in America is that people are more concerned about price than quality.

Naturally, you can sell lavender oil inexpensively if you can produce a pound of oil in 15 minutes versus a pound of oil in an hour and a half.

To maintain the highest grade of oil and to be able to get all the properties in the oil that create the therapeutic effect in the healing of burns, reducing of headaches and fevers and overcoming insomnia and PMS, that oil must be of the highest grade and quality.

In the larger fields of the world during the distillation time, one can see chemical trucks hooked into the distillers pumping solvents into the water already in the boiler. This increases the oil production by as much as 18 percent. However, when you put a chemical in the water and force this with steam into the plant, it causes a fracturing of the molecular structure of the oil, altering its fragrance and constituents because you cannot separate the chemicals from the oil after it comes through the condenser.

Most of the lavender oil sold in America today is lavendin, which is a hybrid and is grown and distilled in either China or Russia. The oil production in both locations tests high in radioactive isotopes. They bring it into France, cut it with synthetic linolol acetate to improve the fragrance, add propylene glycol or SD 40, which is a solvent that has no smell 'and increases the volume, and then sell it in the United States as lavender oil. We in America don't know the difference and are happy to buy and sell it for $5-7 per half ounce in health food stores, beauty salons, grocery and department stores and through mail order.

Frankincense is another example of an adulterated oil. The frankincense resin, or gum, that is sold in Somalia costs between $30,000 and $35,000 per ton and when steam distilled is very expensive. However, frankincense that is sold for as low as $25 per ounce is distilled with alcohol. When these cut, synthetic and adulterated oils cause rashes, burns or other irritations, we wonder why we don't get the benefit we were expecting and come to the conclusion that essential oils don't have that much value.

There are first, second, third and fourth stages of distillation, with each one becoming weaker and weaker to which synthetic fragrance constituents are added and then sold to the unsuspecting public. Many people have jumped on the bandwagon because of the money-making potential that they see with essential oils. They buy cheap oils, rebottle them, label them as 100 percent pure essential oils and market them without ever knowing their origin or who was responsible for the distillation.

After seeing the number of farms going out of business in France and Germany, I was concerned that the day would come when we would have a difficult time obtaining oils. I felt I needed to find farm land where we could begin growing our own crops in order to secure our supply and quality. After many months of looking, I was led to the Benawah Valley near St. Maries, Idaho, where we now have 50 acres in production.

We were very specific in choosing land that had never had chemicals on it because all our growing and production operations are strictly organic. Our farms in Utah, Idaho, and France are all organic. [name edited out/forum rule] We are now supervising the distillation of some of the oils that it sells as well as buying directly from the distilleries in order to avoid adulteration and inferior quality of oils that are produced around the world. We begin with the pure seeds and take them all the way through the growing, harvesting, distilling, formulating, packaging and marketing. This way we know what we have and can stand behind the production and the quality.

At the [name edited out/forum rule] Research Farm in Idaho, I built four different distillers and, as I mentioned, the largest and only stainless steel vertical steam distiller in North America, so we could control our operation in order to produce the highest quality of oil possible. After building the first two, I invented a steam decompression chamber and manifold that delivers the steam at zero pounds of pressure to the chambers.

In 1994, we produced an extremely high quality of peppermint and clary sage oils as well as the first distilled wild tansy oil in the world. When we attended the essential oil medical convention in September of 1994, everyone who sampled the oils was excited and wanted to know where they could purchase some. They were fascinated with the wild tansy as that was a new and almost exotic smell for them. We have acquired more farm land in Utah and will be building an entire distillery there so that the new crops can be distilled on site.

When you apply essential oils to the body you are increasing cellular frequency, circulation and increases the oxygen delivery to the cell. As you take them internally for food flavoring or supplements, you are supplying your body with oxygen and nutrients.

As we diffuse the oils in our home we are eliminating air borne bacteria as well as pulling the chemicals and metallic out of the air, which are also air borne.

Dr. Hazel Parells stated. "That one of the biggest problems we have in Amercia is the radiation that is in the atmosphere that produces radio active metallic isotopes." She said that is the biggest detriment to our physical body, of all the people she worked with, the first thing she did was attack the radiation isotopes in the humane tissue.

This is why it is so important to have a diffuser, diffusing essential oils all the time and drink our NingXia Red, take Longevity, Vita Green and etc to keep our frequency up.

Dr. Penoel, uses melaleuca capsules on his cancer patients four to six days before radiation treatments plus massage the melaleuca alternifolia on the patient where the radiation is going to be and ten days after. He said by doing this he hasn't had one case have radiation side effects. The frequency of the oils support the body. Our Melrose would be a great one to use.
