Since we know that 1) round worms (Ascaris) lay their eggs in the lungs where they hatch and then the theory is you cough them up(the babies) and swallow them so they return to the intestinal tract where they grow into adults; and, 2) that when one passes worm "egg" containing thick mucus in the toilet that one can often see tiny worms within the nearly solid mucus, my guess would be that you are coughing up the newly hatched round worms, or some other parasite. The mucus nurseries are large enough that you are able to spit them out instead of unknowingly swallowing the hatchlings.
