kinked ureter need kidney support

Hello,

My brother was just diagnosed with a kinked ureter. They said one of his kidneys was twice the size of the other. they are planning on doing surgery to remove the kink. What would you suggest to help the kidney. He is 21 yrs old and the doc said the kink was a birth defect. He has had terrible back aches and always though they were the result of a car accident.
