Hypothyroidism confused with Alzheimer's??

Hey guys. I just read somewhere that hypothyroidism is sometimes confused with Alzheimer's disease.

Do any of yo know if that is true? If so, has it happened to you, or anyone you know?

I am very interested in this, my Mom is concerned that she might be in the early stages of Alzheimer's disease. It occurs to me that her symptoms could be caused by a variety of different things, and it may simply be the result of aging and strict adherence to poor diet for the last 63 years.
