Re: I know this is a stupid question but....

Definitely, weight can be an issue. However if you are not more than 40 pounds overweight, it's probably not the cause. As a narcoleptic & nurse (LVN, BSN bound!)I highly suggest seeing a neurologist that specializes in Sleep medicine. Sleep paralysis indicates some hypothalamus issues. Sleep medicine specialists understand this connection. If you live in the Houston area, a pioneer in Sleep Medicine practices there. Dr. Todd Swick. Look him up. Contact his office and ask for a reference to someone in your area of the world, if you live elsewhere. My first Neurologist, Sleep Medicine specialist actually interned under Dr Swick and tried her best, but had me so messed up, I was having to go and see my Psychiatrist (the man who after 4 years, realized that my Depression symptoms were caused by something physiological and made me get a sleep study). I really though I going crazy in a whole new way. As one who strongly advocates that patients DO THEIR HOMEWORK to find the right doctor. I began researching sleep disorders and who was known as the best of the best and why (I didn't want a commercial hype MD), and found Dr. Swick. I'm not quite 100% yet, but I'm getting there.:o) Both comments above have good information, as well. Consider giving this a try Good luck!! Feel free to e-mail me or reply here with your progress or questions, I'll do the best I can.
