People with hypothyroidism find it very difficult to lose weight because our bodies dont convert T4 hormone to T3 which is very important as this conversion plays a crucial role in converting body fat into energy which the body will then burn up during excercise. I had this problem for about 5 years, tried all manner of diets and worked out at the gym sometimes for hours on end in the hope that my body would shed the excess weight. However, after all my efforts I always remained at the same weight. Then a couple of months ago I went to see a nutritionist who specialises in helping those with hypothyroidism. This was a life changing visit. She told me I had to balance my carbohydrates with protein at every meal...even snacks. I am now following a well balanced diet, eating a good choice of low density carbohydrates and avoiding complex carbs like potatoes, pasta, bread etc. She also prescribed me some excellent nutrional supplements which are making that little bit of extra difference. These supplements are readily available in the States because Im in England and I have to order them from their! I seriously recommend seeing a nutritionist and especially one who specialises in this condition. Since I made the changes recommended to me I have lost a significant amount of weight in a short space of time and have loads of energy! If anyone wants more information of what I was told by my nutritionist or the names of the supplements that she prescribed then please email me and I will be glad to send the info to you....good luck
