Re: Day 8 of ten complete, question re: how to break 10 day fast.
"I've lost 16 lbs after 8 days, nice added benefit, should make the upcoming jogs easier on the knees."
Hi jluv, nice post :).
I say this only in the hopes of preventing you from being discouraged when the temporary water loss portion of your weight loss comes back on within about 2 weeks, which it almost certainly will. You have probably lost about 4 pounds of fat which is yours to cherish. That with the cleansing and healing you have done should as you said make your jogs noticeably more comfortable, both on your knees and in other areas.
If you had any lung issues however slight, you will almost certainly find that they will perform better. I once preceded a fast with lungs as my weakest link and emerged from the fast seemingly with them completely healed and having become my strongest link (Lungs, heart, legs).
"... although I'm sure I took energy away from my intended purpose with that activity level. I hope it was not too detrimental, was it?"
I'm going to estimate...and that's all it is :)...that if a resting fast would have given you 1-10 benefits of a 10, the amount of activity you are describing has allowed you a 7. What do others think about this?
"I plan on breaking the ten day fast with orange juice, half glass hourly or so the first day, then moving to solid fruit the second day (grapefruit, strawberry, kiwi, banana) and would like to move to raw veggies for a salad, but don't know how soon I can do that. Please advise regarding my fruit choice if any of them should be avoided, and how soon I can move to veggies, nuts, and finally meat/potato :-)"
Your day one sounds perfect.
The following is my opinion for an optimal emergence from this fast. Note that everybody is different and there will be variation between individuals and a number of other factors such as how strong and energetic you feel once your fast has ended. If you feel nausiated for example, you might need to emerge more slowly than this. If you feel fantastic, you might be able to emerge a bit less gradually. This is based on your 10 day fast and for a 30 day fast you would triple these recommendations.
2 or 2.5 days of live preferably organic juices, both raw and cooked as in vegetable broths. If you felt you could act in extreme moderation (which i sometimes can't), tiny nibbles of fruit during this time would likely be fine.
Next day whole juicy fruits (ideally hold off on bananas) and the most digestively simple vegetables such as green leafy lettuce and spinach and the fruit/vegetable known as the tomato.
Next day or day and a half: Juices, Fruits and vegetables, preferably avoiding high starch vegetables such as potatos and corn.
Next day, Juices, Fruits and vegetables, starchy vegetables, small quantities of whole grains and/or beans.
Next day. Same with larger portions and nuts.
By the next day you should be fine with fish, chicken or beef, ideally in smaller portions before moving onto larger ones.
That's all i have. Best wishes as you continue your fast to your 10 day goal.
