Hey everyone, G'morning, April :)
Sorry to post...yet again...:::wink::: nope - no apologies EVER accepted for posting and asking questions! Questions & posts are the reason this forum is here
I posted yesterday about how I thought juice was raising my blood sugar too high. Well apparently it isn't the juice because I woke up with a blood sugar of 400 this morning, and that was obviously without any juicing cause I woke up with the sugar. It spiked up to that from 166 4 hours prior. I just don't know what to do!
Well, now we know a LOT more than we did yesterday...and we also know that you're in the beginning stages of creating a new foundations throughout every organ & system of your body (so the "old sick foundations" are getting a MAJOR overhaul, and this means a lot of changes are happening (and a lot of toxins are being released).
I totally understand why this is "scary, frustrating, anxiety-provoking, worrisome and any other 'negative' you'd like to insert here". But I truly don't feel it's any cause for major alarm (and I know that any time we become stressed, anxious and "tight", it tends to enhance/worsen the problem we're worried about). And in the case of blood sugar, norepinephrine/adrenalin (released by the adrenals during 'stress', does elevate blood glucose. So before going any further, close your eyes, force just a "wee bit" of a smile and breath deeply & slowly 5-10 times. (and please don't think I'm trying to be condescending...this really DOES have a positive biological/physiological impact...and it will make you feel better to smile (whether you feel like smiling or not).
Now, what do we know? We know that when people ask "am I having some kind of a healing crisis?" that Dr. Schulze would respond, "I don't know. What did you do yesterday/recently?" And we know "yesterday/recently" you spent 5 days doing liver-work and then a full liver flush....along with all the other protocols on the IP.
Does you liver have anything to do with your blood sugar levels? Absolutely! So yes, this might be some type of a "healing crisis", or it might actually be your body starting to heal! (Always remember, we're looking at a "pendulum situation" many times -- the pendulum has been totally out of balance and pushed to the 'sick side' for a very long time...when starting to heal, many times the pendulum swings 'back & forth' a bit before it comes to rest in the "perfect healthy middle").
How does the liver affect blood sugar? The first thing that comes to mind is that when blood sugar is low (after fasting all night, between meals and during exercise, etc), the pancreas produces glucogen to trigger the liver to increase blood sugar by releasing stored glucose.
So, if an elevated blood sugar is NOT typical for you in the mornings upon waking, there's a possibility that just one week of "liver work" has helped your liver to function 'more better' and now when it receives the 'low blood sugar' morning-message, it's releasing more glucose than usual.
OR, it could be that the garlic, cayenne & psyllium (all known to reduce blood sugar), really are reducing your blood sugar...and during the night with no food, your sugar dropped lower than usual, which caused your pancreas to release glucogen to trigger your liver to release glucose. And since the cedar berry tea has had a few days to be doing it's thing, there's bound to be some times you go hypo (triggering your liver to release glucose).
OR, it could be a combination of those two things (or other things, like toxins - more below on that)...but the things we know for sure?
--there ARE going to be fluctuations as you heal & restore (that pendulum IS going to swing).
--the IP does heal & resotre your body (and it's seems it's doing some of that already).
--the pendulum is especially going to swing in the early stages of the healing process as your body adapts to organs that are working better (and you learn to adjust/lower your insulin accordingly).
I really really DO understand why this is stressful for you...but I really really DO believe this is a seriously good sign!
Now, about those "toxins" (and morning headaches). Yep, whenever we juice fast, we give our body 60+% more energy to heal itself (energy that would have been used in the energy-sucking process of digestion & assimilation). And yep, this means the body IS going to start releasing stored toxins.
Also, when we start doing liver work we have to look at it like an automobile that's been driven hard on cheap, toxic fuel for 20 years. There's build-up throughout all the "tubing", but all the fluids have managed to force a pathway through the build-up. Our first few cleanses means that we "stir up all the crud", and sometimes this means that temporarily, the previously compromised flow of fluids becomes even more compromised for a few days....in the case of the liver, that means even less bile flow than normal.
That's a "double whammy", eh? More toxins being released and a liver that may be temporarily less able to process/neutralize the toxins....which can definitely cause a headache (and other symptoms of 'toxin release').
Answer? Coffee enemas daily (sometimes two)! And morning is the perfect time to do them (it's easy to brew the coffee solution right before going to bed, strain it, and leave it on the stove top to cool...so nthe next morning all you have to do is warm it up a bit and it's ready to use). I hope you've had a chance to do some reading on CEs so that you know how effective they are for detoxifying the bloodstream while supporting and cleansing the liver.
April, this is likely a really good opportunity to "learn to listen & hear your doctor within" (which is really what the IP is all about...learning, listening and designing/adjusting your protocol to help your body). I've coached a lot of folks on the IP, and the ones that progress fastest are the ones that "use the book" as guideline, while doing their best to learn what's happening with their body (so they can hear their doctor within and interpret it all correctly)...so they can "ramp up" and "slow down" as they learn to 'hear' what they're body is experiencing. Of course, you're not supposed to be able to do that after only a week of IPing, but I wanted to share that so you can be contemplating the concept (of adjusting the protocol as your body tells you to adjust it). Onward...
And here's why this may be a great opportunity: since we know the entire bloodstream goes through the liver every 3 minutes, and while a CE is retained the liver is basically turned into a "super strong blood dialysis machine" due to massive boost to the Glutathione S-Transferase system...which means (if you retain the solution 15 minutes) that your entire bloodstream is cleansed FIVE times! So if wake up with elevated blood sugar & a screaming headache, then immediately do a CE (and recheck your blood sugar), you will have a good idea:
--if the toxins causing some type of effect on your blood sugar?
--are the toxins causing the headache?
(Of course, if you see a change in blood sugar, you also have to factor in the 'time elapsed' during the CE...because your blood sugar may have altered some during that time). But still, it's a great opportunity to learn (and possibly relieve symptoms). In case you don't know it, CE's were "discovered" by field nurses in WWI for pain relief...and many (many!) times, a CE will knock out a headache when nothing else will :)
Another reason for CE's is that after a full liver flush, this is the time when it's most likely for all kinds of debris to have been loosened and temporarily causing 'lack of bile flow'...and CE's relax the biliary network while increasing the flow of bile.
Speaking of liver flushes, how was yours?! :) Inquiring minds /friends wanna know...so be sure to post about it (if you have the time, and want to share, of course).
Another option? Add activated charcoal to each dose of IF#2 (1/4 - 1 teaspoon) to help adsorb the toxins.
I would go up on insulin except my sugar runs great the rest of the day once I get that high down, and the insulin I take is a 24 hour insulin. I wonder if it has something to do with being more toxic in the morning or something? I also wake up very dehydrated every morning for some reason despite drinking lots of water and juice all day, and wake up with an extremely bad headache.
I'm stuck, I'm not sure what to do, it's scary running this high, I feel like complete crap when it runs this high.
Hmmm, of course we don't want to see your sugar anywhere near 400 - but my "healer within" agrees, and doesn't discern that upping your 24-hour insulin for a morning spike at this stage of the game is necessarily the right solution...especially when you're okay the rest of the day. You're likely already aware of this, but a 10-15 minutes of aerobic exercise will cause muscles to burn glucose (many times bring sugar levels down fairly substantially/quickly). I knew one person who regularly lowered by 100-150 point by walking brisky for 30-40 minutes.
Remember what Dr. Schulze says: "What did you do yesterday/recently?" April you've done a LOT for your liver and you are taking herbs that are proven to lower your blood sugar (and cedar berries support your pancreas, and liver flushing can be good for the pancreas, as well). So although I have no way of knowing ffor sure if this caused you sugar to lower overnight (hence spike do to glucogen release), that sure 'fits the bill'...especially when we know there's going to be fluctuations as you body heals.
April, you are doing WONDERFULLY!! (and you can trust, I would tell you if you weren't! lol). Progress is a process, and this isn't going to happen overnight (and it's not likely going to happen without a few roller coaster rides). I certainly understand why it stressing (in many ways), but I also know the stress is 'no good blood sugar'. Dr. Schulze recommends all kinds of various 'therapies', but the one that wasn't around (and this very effective, EASY and totally free) is EFT. You can learn to do this in less than an hour and it's extremely effective for anxiety, stress relief and anything 'emotional'...and it has amazing effects on the 'physical' as well.
Here's the homepage (be sure to check out all the practioners, MDs & therapists that regularly use it): emofree.com/
Here's a great tutorial (Aila is an RN and EFT practictioner - this tutorial is great, but she's SO slow, lol. I normally tap a 'full round' in less than 2-3 minutes): YouTube - Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) with Aila
And here's a free .pdf manual you can download:http://curezone.com/upload/_N_Forums/Natural_Heali/eftmanual31710.pdf
April, I know you're stressed & worried, but I'm tellin' ya true...I've helped a LOT of folks with the IP, and what you're reporting is VERY encouraging to me! No spikes in glucose from the juices and what just had to be a glucogen release due to low sugar overnite (if the juices aren't raising your sugar during the day and you haven't lowered your insulin...then what else could it have been? Eating nothing for 8 hours isn't going to raise your glucose to 400! I really think your "good progress" lowered it, you had a glucogen release, and your cleaner liver kicked in with a glycogen/glucose release and raised it...and perhaps the flush & toxins played a part, too). I know I could be wrong, and I want you to listen to YOUR doctor within...but I'm feeling really psyched for ya, girl...cuz I KNOW good things are happening!!
Thanks for any help You're always more than welcome! Unyquity (who didn't proof-read this, so pardon the typos)
April
