Re: Osteoporosis and back pain

I just recently found out that I have Osteoporosis and at 52 years of age was very surprised, as have been doing weight bearing exercise for years. I've never been a milk drinker but have always been a BIG cheese, meat, fish, poultry eater. Thank GOD I happened on this sight, which got me into cleansing and reading more about the American Diet and how it has been deteriorating our health. That reading led me to a book called "Diet For A New America" by John Robbins. WOW, did this book open my eyes. The second part of the book much explains exactly what you were saying, that milk, meat, etc., actually works against you, moreover, a diet rich in fresh vegetables (DARK green leafy vegetables, have much more absorbable calcuim than milk products. Also, phosphorous is very important along with the calcium. The higher the calcium/phosphorus ratio, the less bone los takes place, and the stronger the skeleton, but the intake of protein should not be excessive, as it works against you. Just had the need to pass this on. I'm hoping I can change my situation by diet change. PS, another good book, "Confessions of a Medical Heretic" by Robert S.Mendelson, M.D.
