The level of thymol (which is the most healing natural chemical in the herb thyme) is not the same in the other flavors. It is the thymol that is so very effective in killing surface fungus. This is why the old-fashioned brown Listerine tastes so bad - but is so very healing. It does no mask bad breath either - it destroys the bacteria and such that causes the bad breath.
