New to this forum - grateful for advice

Hello,

I am so happy to find this forum of people who are sufffering the same as I am.

I have just turned twenty and have been suffering from an odour for a year and a half now. The main odour comes from my nose when I breathe out, and also from my mouth. It varies in strength but it is a very strong fecal odour and also rotten egg odour.

I have been to six different GPs over ten times who say that they can't smell anything and it is all in my head. However, I can notice the reactions around me that people rub their noses, move away, or even say "who's farted, what's that smell" etc. and my condition has seriously disrupted my social life and quality of life in general. Also a couple of close friends have told me they can smell something when I asked them, as have my parents, which although hurts I am grateful for as the smell seems to be worse to others (although I can smell it 24/7).

I have done a lot of research into what could be causing my odour. First, coming from a family with digestive issues (bowel, pancreatic and stomach cancer) I got tested for H Pylori which was positive which I was treated for with a round of two antiobitoics and omeprazole for two weeks. This got rid of the H Pylori infection and the weirdist thing happened to the odour as it initially died down then came back stronger than ever. I was tested a few months later and I was still clear of H Pylori so I have ruled this out as the cause.

Also, I noticed that tonsil stones can cause a very bad odour as I have coming from my nose. I have a very white coated tongue, so this could be a problem. However, as I have had tonsil stones all my life I presume, it is not the main cause.

I have also read that impacted wisdom teeth can cause terrible odours from the nose and mouth. When the odour started, my wisdom teeth started to make an appearance, however they are all impacted. My dentist said that the others "will come in time" as I am still young but I had my upper right removed last week as it was growing into my cheek. No difference so far, just a more pungent odour from my nose. I have noticed that my bottom two wisdom teeth are half stuck within the gum (They have been like that for nearly two years now) which the dentist says is normal. However, when I floss back there, or put my finger on it, there is the most awful fecal smell imaginable - do you think this could be the cause? And I wonder is it possible for these to be removed even though they are partially stuck beneath the gum?

Finally, I am so desperate to get my life back to the way it was I came across TMAU and although I don't have a fishy smell, I thought perhaps it could be a metabolic disorder. Therefore I contacted Dr Nigel Manning who sent me a very kind reply and said I should submit a urine test. So I went to my GP who said that they were unable to do it, and they would not refer me. They also looked at me as though I was a complete nutter. So I have no idea now how to get tested now :(.
I wonder if I actually have TMAU as the odour is from my breath and particuarly my nose and not from my urine or sweat? Also I had a nose CT scan which was clear.

My life has been ruined by this odour. It may be an exaggeration but it seriously has. I started university last October with this odour and have made my friends, who are very close and kind about putting up with the odour but it has prevented me doing all sorts of things, particuarly being dumped by my boyfriend. I am at a low point in life now, and would like any advice possible, I can't begin to say how grateful I would be.

Thank you.
