Re: toddler constipated - Milk of Magnesium question

Milk of magnesium is dangerous because it burns the intestinal wall. That's why it's causing diarrhea.
Stop using it please, this is not recommended, even for adults.

"As for magnesium, yes magnesium can relax the intestines since it antagonizes calcium that contracts muscles. Although magnesium oxide/hydroxide, such as Milk of Magnesia, is still a laxative because it chemically burns the intestinal wall. These leads to influx of water in to the intestines and increased peristalsis. For this reason magnesium oxide/hydroxide is a poor and dangerous choice for a laxative."

Best magnesium sources are magnesium malate or citrate.

Try slippery elm to soothe the stools.
Triphala is also a mild laxative that won't cause any dependance. But I don't know the dosage for a so young girl.
