Here is a list of natural flea fighters that I employ.

1) Beneficial nematodes applied twice a year (spring and fall) in the yard.

2) Food grade diatomaceous earth dusted on the fur of my cats and dog to desiccate the horrors. Put it down on the carpets to desiccate any fleas that are there too. It can also be put in their food to help remove parasites. BUT, be careful with cats prone to UTI's as it is high in calcium.

3) Orange oil - citrus oils are a natural flea killer that are safe for pets. I use a citrus based shampoo. Been using this stuff for years. http://naturalanimal.com/dogflea.php.

This year I bought a 2 liter bottle of orange oil concentrate from TKO orange, for cleaning. I plan to try a diluted spritz on Willow, the dog to see if it will help keep her flea free. http://www.tkoorange.com/index.html


4) Flea comb and sudsy water. [EDIT: Dunk the comb in the sudsy water and swish it around to free the fleas. The sudsy water (don't need a lot of soap, just a drop of dish detergent) changes the water structure so they can't hop out and they drown. Very satisfying to have a bowl of drowned fleas when you're done.] Low tech, non toxic and works. The key is finding a good flea comb with teeth close enough together to get even the tiniest ones. [EDIT: But with the nematodes and DE working together, you should find few fleas on your pets.]
