deeper understanding from communicating with physically-disabled people?

Sometimes, after I talk with a blind person, or if I sign with a deaf person, I'll feel as if I have gotten a little piece of knowledge or a deeper understanding from the situation.

Does that really seem right, though? They could be suffering from a disability, and instead of that issues, I kind of just looked at how it affected me spiritually, you know?
