Re: More Stomach Acid Blues
I was under the care of an MD practing alternative medicine about eight months ago. He declared that I had hypochlorhydria (low stomach acid), and that I wasn't assimilating any protein. He only had access to my saliva and urine, so I don't know how he came to this Dx. Anyway, I wholely agree with his findings. He put me one pill of Zypan per meal.
When I read Hv's prescription for low stomach acid, I jumped on it. I would much rather produce my own stomach acid than depend on a pill. Unfortunately, I have not been able to acheive the results that I had hoped for. In fact, I find that when I'm off the Zypan my general condition deteriorates very rapidly.
So, as much I wanted the zinc, B vitamins, bitters, and TMG to help, it has not. Hv, do you have any other recommendation? Is my next step the Heidelburg test? It's obvious that my health will not be permamently improved until my digestion is restored. Thanks you.
You are going to have to patient. Keep in mind that most of the nutrients that are required for the production of stomach acid (zinc, B vitamins) are acid dependent for absorption. Therefore the lack of stomach acid is interfering with the production of more stomach acid. It is a catch-22 situation. But there are things you can do such as taking apple cider vinegar with meals and supplements. This will provide the acidity to allow for the absorption of the nutrients needed for the production of your own stomach acid.
