Sugar levels, so are considered preferable to sugar. They tend to have a laxative effect and can cause stomach cramps, gas and diarrhoea if overeaten, so they are best used only occasionally. As they are not broken down in the stomach, and draw water into the bowel, they can cause fermentation of undesirable bacteria. This can make yeast problems such as candida worse."
