cleansing stones from antique jewelry/good stone for every day wear

I'm thinking of buying some antique jewelry with garnets or other.

I am worried it's going to carry even more negative energy than the small stones I get just for healing.

I usually soak in salt water, but I won't be able to if I buy a ring or necklace.

For some reason smudging doesn't seem feasible.

Would moonlight be ok? If I soak in dry salt would it scratch the surface?

Would I need to soak extra long just because there have been many owners?


Also : what would be a good stone to wear as a wedding ring so people think I'm married and respect me more? (I live in a seedy neighborhood).

EDIT : I suppose a citrine cluster would help.

As for the ring, I need something that can be "mixed" with other gems and crystals that I carry with me for effects. I love the effects of citrine, and it doesn't hold negative energy... But it cannot be gawdy, only a small stone. Would a very small stone or small row of stones still have much energy? Tweet
