Remember Times Beach?!

"Killing Horses" by Judy Piatt (website is http://www.killinghorses.com).
She used to live in the area of Times Beach, ran horse stables, etc. She just self-published the book (lives now in my community), and it's about her experience of the environmental disaster at Times Beach, Mo. They literally wiped that community off the maps. Everything she writes about she has documentation to back her up. This will really make you mad at how the system let everyone down. All the birds died, then the cats, then dogs, horses, etc. Birth defects in the animals and people, cancers, horses rotting from the inside out.

After reading the book and talking with people, I realized I personally know of people who lived there who have suffered from brain tumors and other cancers and birth defects. It'll definitely get you thinking about what's out there that you may not know about, what might be making you sick, and they're "covering" it up and pretending like it never happened. It's scary—they've turned Times Beach into a PARK! I don't think I'm going to be taking the kids to that park any time soon. I don't for one second believe they've cleaned it up well enough. And I know they dumped the toxic stuff removed from Times Beach to elsewhere in Missouri. One place I know if is by rivers, so it may be getting in groundwater.
