There are a number of things that can cause these symptoms including ulcers, gastritis, esophageal varicies, etc. The blood could also have come from somewhere else such as sinus drainage or bleeding gums.

Normally blood coming from the stomach will not even be red. It will look more like coffee grounds. A lack of stomach acid can prevent this appearance though and his bloating indicates a lack of stomach acid.

Without more information it is hard to make strong recommendations.

Something simple though is licorice root, which is great for ulcers and gastritis. I would go with powder if possible with a recommended dose of 1/2 teaspoon 3 times daily at least 20 minutes before meals. Tweet
