Considering, that we now understand that EVERYTHING affects our genes... diet, environment, the use of cosmetics, etc.

and we have an entire generation raised and taught to avoid the sun and always use sunscreen... now having their own children...

Wouldn't a genetic "change" be expected?

What about the wide use of cholesterol reducing drugs?

Isn't cholesterol a vital part of vitamin D synthesis?

We could go on here with other likely genetic changing practices that would impair vitamin D synthesis.
