Re: How to recognize it?

Proving that something is composed of cholesterol is extremely difficult.

I believe that it would take a lot of work by an experienced chemist, with a great lab equipment, to prove beyond any doubt that:
- something is not feces
- something is not oil
- something is cholesterol

There are no simple tests out there.

You can do spectrographic analyzes of stones, but that kind of analyzes can prove that stones might contain cholesterol, while you can not prove that stones do contain cholesterol cause there are many different molecules that give similar picture on spectrogram.

Proving that something is cholesterol is very difficult.
But, you can analyze stones yourself and see if it MIGHT be a cholesterol.

Here are a few important characteristics of cholesterol:
- cholesterol is insoluble in water
- cholesterol is soluble in alcohol
- cholesterol is waxy
- pure cholesterol is solid on room temperature, but impurities may affect it greatly (bile is composed of liquified and water soluble cholesterol acids).

Suggestions have been made that stones are not cholesterol, but that stones are olive oil.
characteristics of olive oil:

- olive oil is insoluble in water
- olive oil is insoluble in alcohol
- insoluble is oily, it is not waxy
- olive oil is never solid on room temperature, but hydrogenation may convert it into solid partially hydrogenated fat (olive oil margarin).

Suggestions have been made that stones are not cholesterol, but that stones are olive oil soap.
Characteristics of olive oil soap:

- olive oil soap is soluble in water
- olive oil soap is soluble in alcohol
- freshly made olive oil soap is liquid, it is not oily and it is not waxy
- olive oil soap is not solid on room temperature, but if you add some beeswax while making it, and if you leave it for several days to evaporate, you may get solid olive oil soap (similar to olive oil soap sold in a health food stores )

About my stones:

My stones were hard & waxy, so they could have not been olive oil or olive oil soap!

My stones were soluble in alcohol, so there is no way there were olive oil (olive oil is not soluble in alcohol)!

My stones were not soluble in water, so there is no way there were soap!

Tell me about your stones?
