Re: Is this a healthy way to waterfast? Lay still all day w/ eyes closed?

This is a somewhat random place to rant on this, but a common point of confusion has arisen here again, and I don't feel like standing on the soapbox of a dedicated thread. So with apologies for the sidebar:

It would sure be nice (in a nice place like this for a start) if we could consciously and collaboratively trend towards a more scientific, and less corrupted meaning of the word "fasting"- to use that word to describe abstaining from food of any kind. Limiting our diets to particular foods is more aptly termed dieting, and not fasting. I think our casual abuse of terms contributes to much confusion.

It's like disposing of trash inappropriately and not recycling- we can rationalize that we aren't contributing to larger problems stemming from indifference. We can throw up our hands and declare everything messed up and not worth the effort. We can add to the garbage slowly invading pervading our physical and linguistic environments... or not.

It's like when I've watched a presumably intelligent person confuse the bottles/cans bin with the trash: Not speaking up as collective behaviors degenerate is tantamount to giving up. So pardon me as I reiterate something pertinent to all our discussions here:

Fasting = consuming no food

Dieting = consuming limited food

Thanks for patiently reading- I don't feel quiet so apathetic and lazy now. I invite you to join the cleanup effort in our fasting and dieting discourse.

And now, back to your regularly-scheduled sensory-deprivation.
