If this happened in January of 1804, then the 200 year rein of Satan over this poor island would have elapsed 6 years ago. People seem to always be looking for a way to explain why bad things happen to people, and this Satan thing seems another example of that. It helps them feel it could never happen to them. It also absolves them of the annoying necessity to care, or to feel any sense of obligation to help, especially if it involves money. If San Francisco gets a quake, it will be because of the gay lifestyle of many of its residents. If LA gets it, well, we all know about those decadent Hollywood types . . . New Orleans of course - well they have a lot of voodoo down there. Mexico City gets a good whallop from mother nature on a fairly regular basis - what is their sin? There must be something. . .
